funny to see that subject pop up again. it was what drove me insane enough to find this sub in the first place.
at any rate, the problem is not the bots. I thought it was, but those are just part of the parasitic ecosystem.
but to get that, first we need to take a few steps back on web history, ad serving, UX, tracking technology and media advertising.
too lazy to gather links, but you know, do your googlin'.
I assume that most of you are fairly web literate here, but I'll try to go down into the bare bones as much as possible for those who aren't.
so let's start with a basic question - what is a web visitor anyway?
from the standpoint of a normal person, that would be a person browsing a given website or piece of content. from the standpoint of technology however all you know is that some device has downloaded content from your server using the http protocol. thanks to the wonderful technology of web browsers, you can plant browser cookies on a visitor - stuff that's used to remember if they logged in, what their preferences are, stuff that your service can read from the device. it also serves usually very basic telemetry like last visit time, session time, and so on.
this, over time has evolved in what we call browser fingerprinting, a convoluted bunch of technology that allows websites and web services to uniquely identify you.
it still doesn't know if you're a human or not, but from the standpoint of the web technology, you're a visitor.
now back in ye old days of the web, when the first banner ads were springing up, these were important questions. most consumers were still to be reached on traditional media channels, and ad spend would have to be justified somehow on the risky ventures of online business. so beyond traditional polls that would infer the value of visitors, websites would start tracking number of visitors, time on page and so on. these were used to milk the advertising cow so to speak, and it gave in to some funny developments like the creation of the popup ad - if I recon correctly on geocities, where they would just but the ads everywhere until some big auto company noticed that they're appearing on porn sites. so - put the ad in the popup, and you can claim it's not in the context of porn!
around this point in time the online ad business is still pretty low tech. you actually have to call a physical human being, they send you ppts and pdfs, you send back image files and excel sheets, you wire money, the ads run, and so on. this is called direct sales, and it's tracked again by counting a bunch of visitors, and telling you how much impressions and clicks your marvelous creatives and ad budget generated.
now enter google - or more precisely, a technology firm called doubleclick that was to be acquired by google. they developed a tool for automatic ad serving, later to be called programmatic advertising, that keeps the pesky sales dude out of the loop and achieves reasonable amounts of scale for a more hefty price - after all, if the sales are automated, you get a bidding war for attention between different advertisers, and you're paying for clicks.
so you can see how this was a strategic move for google - they already had the most valuable data available in this situation. they were seeing in real time what people were searching for, and using the programmatic ad serving system, you could effectively bid not just for general attention - but for attention with an intent to buy.
...and the way that google got this data is because they indexed the web, using bots. at least GoogleBot would identify itself as a site visitor, but in the meantime they developed a service for websites to comprehensively track their own visitors and where they were coming from and what they were doing on your website. incidentally, you could also put on google's ads on your webpage to earn quite a bit of money, as content relevant ads would be shown through the doubleclick system.
this kicked off two things:
one, the ability to classify your website visitors into different clusters and segments allowed businesses to start tailoring the appearance of the website or service to fit that specific audience segment, starting off the great fracture - segmentation of the web (in the sense that two people viewing the same website at the same time were not seeing the same thing)
two, it created a very strong financial incentive for people to trick google into thinking they were having actual human visitors that would click on ads, when in fact they were bots. in an even funnier twist, some of them were from browser hijackers, commonly known as malware at the time, which google cross-financed. look up download valley and crossrider.
at the cross section of the above two, you had one interesting twist: websites that would appear differently to the security bots or the compliance officers of Google as they would to fake visitors or malware jacked human beings. the former would get a benign looking website, while the latter would get bombarded with auto clicking ads.
this kicked off the billion dollar arms race called online advertising fraud.
I'm not here to shed a tear for big money corps bleeding money. the real fallout lay somewhere else, but for that you have to understand that you never really saw the real internet, you only saw your corner and the one that was personalized for you.
but if you ever had the pleasure of watching daytime TVs or off channels and witnessing the ads, you could kind of infer what kind of audience must be watching these shows generally. from quite clear rip offs to magic number lotteries and television fortune telling, these sorts of programming was aimed at the most gullible, bought for pennies, where the smallest audience portion had to be converted into a money making operation.
...and with audience segmentation and data gathering, that was now possible at unprecedented scale, automatically. so big was the scale in fact, that it gave birth to an entire new beast of an industry called affiliate marketing, where instead of a regular payroll, you'd get a cut of the sale should you figure out an angle on where to push whatever fucking bullshit the vendors were offering to whoever the fuck would be dumb enough to click on an ad and buy. (the funniest story I recall was someone pulling five figures a month because he figured out that if you buy ads on anime-hentai pages and sell PUA shit courses and e-books you'd make a killing)
at any rate, affiliate marketing brought with it the killer landing page, the thing that's supposed to hammer the nail in the coffin once you get through the banner ad. the earliest form of deceptiveness in memory comes from various pirate sites, that had fake download buttons as banner ads and virus alerts as the landing pages. but then at some point, some schmuck realized that for certain type of products, like diet pills or forex trading or whatever, the best lander is in fact a fake news page that comes packed with comments and all. that would convert like crazy, because it had the appearance of social proof.
until at least the lawsuits came raining down, and these sorts of landing pages and campaigns for being banned left right and centre on all platforms. which just launched a new arms race as the campaigns would be disguised for the bots doing the checkups, and aged facebook profiles would start selling for like 5K USD - these people were making 30-40k a day, they could afford to spend that much to continue running the shop.
speaking of facebook - it came just about the right time for the shit to brew max total. first they were unprecedented in the amount of data they were getting off of their users, and they came just in time to catch the full swing of what we call the 'responsive web' - that no user at the same time would see the same thing on their page, it was all allocated through an intricate web of recommendations, running real time, based on previously gathered and forecast behavioral data.
it also ran on one simple premise: take over the starting page position from google for most people, then they do not have to justify, ever, any ad spend that takes place on their platform, as long as it performs. furthermore, it was completely lacking any revenue share sort of scheme (save for the short period of facebook gaming, see Zynga), thus there was no incentive for the amount of bot traffic that the previous internet era had bred. instead, it came with an entirely different one - bots that would offer social proof in the way of shares and likes, but would not directly risk the business model, thus giving no incentive for facebook to fight them. (note that google didn't do much jack shit either besides indiscriminately penalizing websites it deemed suspicious when they reached critical payout thresholds)
the rest of the story you kind of sort of know. how the obama campaign was brilliant in using the new social media to inspire hope and blah blah blah, kicking the door open for big money politics who could hire the best snake oil salesmen in the market, who had the data and as you can see from the above, had the ethical standards of a shoe. at around 2014-2015 the press (the mainstream media) started to raise question about the duopoly, the buzzword of filter bubbles started appearing, not entirely unrelated to the fact that facebook by this time cannibalized their traffic with a fucking embedded share / like button and started charging money for them to reach their own audience. after 2016 the cries of fake news were everywhere, because there was no online space left which everyone was viewing the same way, and you had no way to verify what the person next to you was looking at.
since then, we've all become grandpa yelling at the television set, with nobody around us seeing what we're seeing on the screen, so we're being accused as bots and looking for bots under the carpet.
but it's been a long way coming, and the bots are honestly the least of our worries. trust me, I went bankrupt over that one. truth or fake doesn't even begin to describe the magnitude of the problem: more like we entered the phase where every word, event or picture is defined by who ever the fuck wins the auction over it, as the marketers of human attention grind the gears of the money mill without even understanding how fast they're digging towards hell.
don't believe me? look around the marketing and advertising related subs these days. the priests are eating the indulgences, and we're only now entering the period of deep fakes, good algo generated audio and good enough NLP. and in the meantime, the shadowrunners running up between two corp headquarter-highrises are skinning your belief systems.
so the best you can do is really, not litter the remnants of cyberspace which are not being mined, astroturfed or being pulled apart by the algos. no human connections on a nuclear trash heap mate.

‘’Pirates’’ will save crypto?

If you invested in bitcoin (or in another functional cryptocurrency) exactly a year ago, then even now despite the market drop caused by the new “black swan” - a recession against the background of coronavirus, you would get more than 35% growth.
Why do we see that the audience of followers is not updated? Why all the projects are fighting for the same fans who entered the crypto before 2018 and continuing to place media uselessly on the same sites? As we all remember, until 2018, each project had access to 2 billion audience through a whole set of tools from advertising on social networks to context advertising. We used LinkedIn, reddit, twitter and of course, the 2 main tools for attracting traffic (google and Facebook). Each crypto project, using these marketing instruments, brought its advertising messages to a new audience, not only carrying out the KPI of the project, but also fueling up interest in the blockchain as a whole industry; thereby increasing the demand for crypto and its liquidity. Of course, if you have a good marketing agency, and you are a large and successful venture blockchain project (from the top of best and most famous), with all the necessary licenses, you can still compete for banning in fb and google. Moreover, although it takes a long time, I know several projects that now have permission for official advertising. 3 Lessons not learnt from the 1MDB.

With so much publicity on 1MDB, most Malaysians are still missing the crucial lessons to be learned from this scandal. Malaysian are confident that the new government will resolve this debacle and that we can start moving on towards a better future. However the reality is 1MDB is not the first scandal committed by our previous government. Prior to this there’s the PKFZ and prior to that there’s the Bank Negara Forex scandal and the list goes on (a whole Wikipedia page of it). The fundamental reason for corruption needs to be identified. Without knowing the core factors contributing to governmental corruption, it’s just a matter of time before the next scandal hits.
The first reason or lesson on why the BN government was able to keep stealing the nation‘s money for so long is because we have a big government. Our government has grown so big to the point that it controls almost every aspect of our lives from education to healthcare, from media to sport, and with close to 500 GLCs(source from www.index.my) there are bound to be leakages. 2 reasons for this:-
1) Big governments need big budgets to operate. When there’s big money, there will always be “opportunities” for people who want some of that money.
2) Big governments have strong influences over policies, so there will always be people who want to lobby for certain policies that would benefit them.
Thus to reverse this, Malaysia needs a smaller government that will require less funding. A smaller government also means there will be limited government policy influencing over different industries which will immediately lessen the opportunity for corruption. It’s time for our new PH government to let go of all those GLCs that are not profiting the country and reduce the number of ministries that the government has no business to be in in the first place i.e. sport, media and education.
The second lesson that Malaysians have not learned is the lack of check and balance in our governmental power structure. The recent budget 2019 announced that the government is going to hire additional 100 MACC staff to police themselves from thieving. This won’t mean anything when the MACC’s Chief is still being appointed by the PM instead of a select committee of Dewan Rakyat. The judges of Federal Court are still being appointed based on the PM’s recommendation and so are all the top posts in regulatory agencies like Bank Negara, Security Commission and Ministry of Finance. Have Malaysians forgotten how Najib easily replaced the Bank Negara Governor,MACC’s chief and Attorney General in the mist of the 1MDB initial investigation? Until we have in place a system of check and balance for governmental power, 1MDB will not be the last scandal.
The third lesson that Malaysians failed to grasp from the 1MDB scandal is our high economic dependency on the government. This has resulted in a growing number of GLCs being established since Merdeka. 1MDB, Khazanah, Petronas, Proton, MAS and FELDA are just some of the many GLCs created under the banner to generate revenue for our country’s development. Not only did most of these GLCs perform poorly in helping the Rakyat but they are also a breeding ground for corruption and the mismanagement of public funds. When the losses are too big to the point of insolvency, tax payer funds are being used to bail them out. A recent report from The Star 9th July 2018, revealed that the top executives of GLCs are drawing fat salaries regardless of their company's performance. This is not surprising since most top positions in GLCs are given as a form of reward to individuals for their political loyalty rather than their expertise. I believe it’s high time the Rakyat realize and acknowledge that government can never solve our problems least of all our country's economic problem. It’s time the government divest our behemoth GLC before another one of them turns into the likes of 1MDB.
Malaysia is a blessed country. Malaysians are blessed people. We all decided to start over on 9th May 2018. It’s time for Rakyat Malaysia to be truly Merdeka and start taking responsibility for our future. It’s time for Rakyat Malaysia to tell our government we don’t need your good intentions and your handouts. It’s time for Rakyat Malaysia to have a government that acts more like an umpire and keeper of the law and nothing else. Paraphrasing Frederick Douglas, “Do nothing with us! I just got pm’ed a link to another Reddit post by someone disappointed with something.
From the very first day of Genesis Vision company existence I’m getting different comments from dissatisfied people.
For example, at the time of Genesis Vision ICO we had a Pre-Sale based on Options Program. People were investing 5% of their total investment amount during Pre-Sale to get the right to invest remaining 95%, getting the maximum 30% bonus. As a result, less than 50% of Options were executed. The rest Option holders were disappointed with something (no exchange listing announcements, bad marketing, etc.)
Little has changed since then. Regularly somebody writes a longread about GV team not matching his/her expectations, sells GVT and leaves the community. This is a normal process for a big project and this is inevitable. Somebody leaves, others join.
Nonetheless, I read most of these comments and I’d like to elaborate a bit more on the most common points.
Team promised something, but failed to deliver it in time
There are two main point here:
1) Our project is quite complicated from the technological perspective. Sometimes we really can’t develop and test everything properly in time. Sometimes we get additional technological challenges, which can be difficult to predict from the very beginning. Such things happen, this is the fact, we’re working on this and doing our best to avoid it in future.
2) Not everything depends on us. We’re a project “uniting all market participants”, and we depend on all these participants. We depend on legal, compliance and even political relationships between countries. Unfortunately, not everything is under our control and some questions are really time-consuming
My main idea is that we’re developing the innovative product in the extremely unstable environment. It’s impossible to publish the exact roadmap and meet all the deadlines to the nearest day. Simply because the new factors affecting our development appear every day.
I expected bigger marketing efforts, but I can’t see it
I would’ve rephrased it to: “your marketing doesn’t meet my expectations” or “I can’t see your banners on forums”.
To create an illusion of BIG marketing, all you need is: - Crank up the retargeting (in this case all your web site visitors will see only your banners everywhere) - Make 10 post per day in all social networks - Buy articles on cointelegraph, forbes, etc.
And then everybody will have a feeling of a big marketing campaign and will be satisfied. But not for a long time. Because in the reality it’s not a “big marketing campaign”, it’s a big marketing budget sink.
What you need to understand here is that our main marketing is the product and our partnerships. It takes much more time and efforts that buying banners, but it’s much more important in a long run. And that’s our main goal at the moment. However, we’re still having advertising campaigns. But each marketing campaign has it’s geo targeting, so there is a chance that you’ll never see our banners since you live in a region, that is excluded from our targeting.
You’re not available in US and do nothing to solve this problem

Q : If TIOMarkets is the first company to offer FX trading using crypto, why don't we switch the domain to dot com (.com) instead of dot uk (.uk) ?A >> We are switching to dot com (.com). The website is still in progress. What you see now is not the website that we are going to be launching with. So, don't worry about that.

Q : What is the symbiosis between the tradeio and TIOMarkets?A >> The biggest thing that I want to mention is the Liquidity Pool. Although there's different companies, and there's different entities, the registrations are completely different. Even the platforms are different between TIOMarkets and tradeio. However, what happens is as TIOMarkets gets bigger and stronger, and there's more volume, there are more clients. People are trading and the company is making money, the profit from that is going to go back into Liquidity Pool. Anybody on trade.io Liquidity Pool is going to start benefit in a big way when they start seeing that daily income get bigger and bigger. So, I would say that it’s probably the biggest symbiosis there.
Q : Tell a little bit about TIOMarkets and how we are planning to make it really big.A >> For TIOMarkets, we have been preparing for the launch for a long time and we really want to make this something very different. We have come up with innovative packages and innovative methods that appeal to traders. Without letting too much of the cat out of the bag, I just want to say that we have actually come up with certain subscription packages that really allow traders to experience some very innovative features and benefits.
Not only that, whatever that we are pushing out to our trading community, allows you to be able to trade with really low commissions. Commissions can be as low as 0 per standard lot. And spreads will be very low as well. And not only that, we are pushing out some really very innovative features.
We have actually talked to some traders about the features and they loved it. For example, one of the features is that it actually allows you to be able to (what I call), " add an undo" button for your trade. So, just imagine this scenario, imagine that you are actually trading and within the first 60 minutes of you executing your trade, if the market actually goes against you, if you actually took up insurance for the trade (for just a very small insurance premium), you will actually have the ability to undo your trade. And whatever floating losses you had will be reimbursed back to you.
Not only that, we believe that traders should be given a chance. Even if they make mistakes. So, just imagine this, within the first month of you trading with us (TIOMarkets), you somehow experience a margin call, or you lose what you put in, what we will do is that we will actually reimburse 50% of your first time deposit back for you to trade again. Why we do this is because we want to make it a point for our traders to have a second chance. We believe that everybody deserves a second chance to be able to learn as they go along. These are just some of the innovative benefits that we have come up with.

Q : How is the 10K users target going to be attained, apart from the 3 months free?A >> We are going to start on 2nd of April. We have 6 big pre-registration campaigns and each of those campaigns have a slightly different message, tone and they are going to be targeted to slightly different people target groups. So the idea is, whatever attracts you the most is the thing that helps you to click. So we've got a wide range of messaging, channels and platforms that we're using to get the message out and we are really going to go as big as we can to try and get the numbers in. And just to add to the previous question about what makes us different, some of here at the trade.io office have FX background. Like myself, we have been involved in FX before. We know the industry, we know what talks and what doesn't talk, we know what works and what doesn't work. We have seen that there is a lot of fatigue in the FX industry. The people are sick and tired of attempting to trade, and for various reasons (maybe that trade is not getting through, etc). Any reasons that makes it frustrating for the trader, when they just want to trade FX. And we are coming in here from this angle. Here's the theory, that you are trading and where your usual FX brokerage is taking out their commission (maybe they are paying commissions for IB, maybe they are widening the spread, maybe they are taking money from here to try and meet their other target they've got). We are saying that none of that. We are not taking anything out. Our subscription package is very transparent. It is once per month at a fixed cost, you know what exactly that cost is and it is at very good price. And thereafter, your trading is essentially free. This will be really cheap and there will be big savings to be made.
This isn't anywhere else in the FX industry at the moment. It will be completely unique to us and it will be something that is extremely attractive to season traders. And for the millennials or the aspiring traders (who don't know how to trade yet), it will be appealing as well because we are saying we know what the issues are, we know what the problems are in FX. If you trade with us, thing are clear, things are clean. We'll support and educate you and you will have a much better overall experience.
That’s our positioning. Aside from that, we've got the FCA Regulation, which is absolutely huge. I'm just personally speaking having worked for a couple of FX companies in the past that didn't have the FCA Regulation, it was always something that clients keeps asking for. So that is one that is really significant for us.
**Terence adding in to Helen's explanation >> Coming from the viewpoint of a lot of us have in the FX industry, one way or another, we really want to come from the angle where we want to be able to create a perfect trading environment for traders. At this point of time we are putting the focal point on our traders creating an environment which is great from them in terms of trading and not like other brokers out there where the emphasis is mainly on profit. Whatever we do such as the subscription packages and the other innovative features that we have are all from the view of a trader.

Q : What makes us stand out from the competitors?
A >> Its going to be our subscription package that isn't available anywhere else. Secondly would be the TIO reimburse (that's what Terence talked about before).Next would be the TIO Shield. That is our fancy name for the really cool feature whereby if you trade on a specific currency pair and if it all goes wrong, you will get your money back (essentially minus a small premium). These are the 3 big points that differentiates us aside from the other stuffs I've said about our tone and angle.
Q : Should we expect TIOMarkets to be fully operational on the 9th of April?
A >> We are opening the doors for pre-registration on the 2nd of April. We've got a little surprise campaign coming out a little earlier than that. That's all I'll say about that for now but then there are 10,000. We don't know exactly when that will be. We believe that it will be sooner rather than later. Even so, one week wouldn't be long enough, so give us a couple of weeks and then we will fully open the doors and let you know when that will be.
Q : The profit for trade.io will just come from the subscription and not from the spreads?
A >> It comes from both, actually. The profit from the company comes firstly from the subscription packages. And then secondly, we are going to be offering what I am calling an "ala carte" option which is maybe you don’t want to pay monthly, that's fine. You can just trade on-the-go as you go. And the spreads will be a little wider but we're going to be fully transparent and honest about that. So, it's your choice which you prefer to trade.
** Additional point from Helen >> It is going to be green (beginner) user friendly and we're creating some pretty cool educational packages. Pretty much everything we're doing, we are saying right. What is different to what we've done before, what is different to how the others are doing it. How can we make it more interesting, less jargony and more fun. Thus it will be definitely friendlier to new users.
Q : Who is our liquidity provider?
A >> that is way out of the marketing remit perhaps. We (Helen and Terence) are unable to answer that.
Q : What is our plan to get partners onboard?
A >> We actually have a very big plan in terms of having joint venture partners and affiliate onboarding because we believe affiliates are going to play a very big part of our whole entire strategy. So we actually have plans that will be launched in Phases.
We'll be paying our joint venture partner and affiliates CPA commissions. Those of you who are in the industry will be familiar with that its Cost Per Acquisitions(CPA). So depending of the numbers of traders or clients that you refer to us and which country they are from you will be paid one time CPA commission. This is kind of controversial in the sense of we don't pay out IB commission because what is mentioned earlier, we basically want to create a great trading environment for traders and probably those of you who know that when IB commissions were paid it has to come from somewhere and very often is comes from the traders. So in our case we are just paying one time CPA commission. Later on down the road, we will launch other hybrid commission program as well. In terms of the CPA commission we'll also allow our partners to be able to have sub-affiliates as well down to about 2 tiers. In other words, not only you will be able to refer traders but you will actually be able to refer sub-affiliate as well.
Not only that, previously like Helen mentioned we actually have a lot of different funnel which we coming out with and those funnel will be made available to our affiliate as well so we'll be testing those funnels and we'll let you know whichever funnel that works, we'll provide you with the emails plus we provides you with the banners and landing pages. So all you have to do as an affiliates is to mail to our databases or however you're going to drive the traffic to your landing pages and after that the company will take over to help you convert those leads into actual clients for you.
It is really exciting in term of the partners. We are giving all the resources they need, we are making the resources as attractive as possible, to make it easiest as possible for them to make lots of money. That will help us a lot. And just as at the partnership side, we've got an exciting addition to the team over here. We've got a new Head of partnership that started with us today in fact and she is a bit of a of a big deal in FX. She has got some of the incredible contacts and networks so that we can really hit the ground when it comes to the partnership.
Q : When is our website is going to live?A >> Firstly, we are going to have what we called landing pages go live on the 2nd. They are individual pages not connected to a bigger website specifically and their purpose is specifically to lead generate. So there we will be going live. For the actual website is as you all know is a big project and a work in progress so that’s going to come a bit later.
Q : How are we going to differentiate ourselves?
A >> I've seen it three or four times now on the chat they are very worried about how we are going to differentiate ourselves. We will! You can trust that we'll because as I said we've been there and we've done that. We've been in FX before. Many of us we don’t want to be like the other brokers. We going to be different not only our offerings and our products but in the way that we express those things. From the tone to the visuals to the actual offerings. It's going to be a breath of fresh air in all aspects apart from the actual platform we're using which is a very well-known very popular platform and of course the instruments are going to be popular instruments that will also be offered by the brokers we can't differentiate there, we don't want to. So, you'll see.

Setting up your first experimental sales funnels free.
In this post we will cover how to set up your first automated sales systems if you have not done this before, entirely for free. Without a lot of technical skills required.

Depending on your level of IT literacy, the set up can be done in under an hour (for a very basic version). If you do not know how to use things like basic HTML and Wordpress, you will have to learn a little about these as you go along (but there is ample resources for this online).

First step is to sign up at Infinity Free. They ate going to hook you up with some free web hosting. You can get a Wordpress site from there (there are other options too).

When you get into the control panel it will look like this.

I forgot to mention earlier, you can either buy a domain name or use a free one provided by Affinity Free. When using a free one, it ends "epizy.com". You can see I have called this one PassiveIncomeExample then used the free domain name PassiveIncomeExample.epizy.com .

Scroll down from this page, pick a theme and hit install.

You will be given your admin link to access to Wordpress site. This link should be (Sitename.com) wp/wp-admin/.

Now you have a free Wordpress blog. You can install add-ons etc and use it like a paid blog. The only cost for this is Infinity Free will have some of their banners on your site (which is fair enough).

Next we will be needing an email autoresponder and capture page generator. For this, we go to MailChimp. They will give you the ability to do this for free for small lists of people. Do be sure to check MailChimps term of service for things they do not allow. Otherwise, you will write your email follow ups only to find when MailChimps alog scans them it finds "trigger" words that flag your account for review (disabling it in the meantime from you using it to send emails), and get it closed if you are breaking the terms.

These terms forbid promoting things that tend to generate a lot of complains. Examples are MLM/affiliate deal, Forex/Binary options etc.

When you join MailChimp they will have a little start up quiz asking your some questions about what you are going to do to get the best settings. They will also probably try to upsell you to a paid subscription at this point, but just use the free one. Starting out, it usually is covering everything you will need while learning to use these.

You will also have to give them some personal information, which is to comply with spam prevention laws.

When you get into MailChimp, click "Create" (at the top) and then from the above screen select "Landing Page".
  • Give your landing page a name on the next screen.
  • Accept the terms of using templates.
  • Pick a template.

This now tells me the list they will be sent to, and also the welcoming message they will get. Which I can edit to best suit.

Once all these are set, this can be "published", and you will have a live link to go and see it online. Do not share it yet, you still need to add email follow ups.

Now you can go to "Create" again and select "Email".

In this area you can set up series of emails, You can set them to trigger X days after the person joins the list.
So to send a week or emails at one a day;
Trigger after 1 day, 2 day, 3 day and so on.

So if I was selling the product listed on this capture page, I would probably be wanting to program these follow up emails to keep sending them the top pricks. Maybe 5 - 10 pricks a day, linking them to places where they can buy it.
I may also decide I want to email again after some time has passed, so maybe email them little updates every two weeks or so for a few months.

Now you can test all of this, if you have done it properly you should be able to put your email address into your opt in page and start to get automated emails. If this is not the case, you have done something wrong, check over things and find out what. If it does work, great. That is the basic components of an automated sales system in place.

You now have a free blog. On here you can make sales pages to advertise products, write reviews for products in blog posts, host videos of you reviewing videos etc. You have a place that is a base for your marketing efforts. You also have a way to automatically tell people about why they should be visiting your website and buying your stuff.

Your task now is to work out how to drive traffic to the landing page. After I have made this, how do I find people who want to see my top pricks? The secondary task is to take whatever feedback you can get from people you are putting into this to make it more efficient in the future.

Python programming: 100% automated robot that scrapes & post deals on Twitter and Instagram

Hello All, I would like to share a little project I have been doing just programming with python. The main objectives of posting it here are to:
  1. Get ideas on how to improve it?
  2. How to monetise it?
  3. Could this experiment be extrapolated to something bigger?
Background:
I have always been interested in programming until 2 years ago when I started learning machine learning with Python. My methodology was simple: I needed an objective or project and work towards that. So I joined several Kaggle competitions and got myself quite motivated about it in parallel to my daily job. I work as an engineer (12+ years experience) in a high tech industry and was easy to me to understand and apply the mathematical and practical foundations of machine learning. After I built some know-how I started doing some other things in parallel to my job, web scrapping, applying machine learning to stock exchange and forex to identify opportunities, web scrapping in big retail companies to identify seasonal products and opportunities, etc.
Then I started learning Flask but realised that web development can be quite tough due to is a very dynamic world and some concepts do not respond to logic, but still working on it. All this with the main objective of building something in parallel with my day job. I have lots of ideas but realised that all of them were quite big and would not be able to do it on my own.
The reason I do not leave my current job and dedicate to one of this big projects with more people is: I love my job, I have a great work/life balance and I consider myself well paid and I have not found people with the same drivers as myself. However, I have a strong entrepreneur spirit and am always looking for opportunities to build in the side. So I decided to start a little project, small monetisation, but something that worked and that would not take me too long to construct or to maintain.
The Project:
This is basically a 100% automated robot that follows this sequence:
1.- Web Scrapping into a “Retail company X” deals to get all data related to product, time left for the deal, discount, price, etc. mainly in Technology.
2.- Sort all the deals by discount giving higher weight on the most expensive products
3.- Get the deals one by one and produce one banner with the main picture of the photo, the product, some text to advertise it, the discount, etc.
4.- Post it in Twitter and Instagram with some text and funny emoticons.
So the robot is creating one post every hour from 8:00 to 24:00. There are some rules like it will never post one product twice and before posting is scrapping all the deals, removing duplicates, sorting, etc.
Then I have a couple of robots that are following people with similar interests, and also giving likes and favourites based on hashtags in both Twitter and Instagram. I am trying to control this since I don’t want to create lots of spam. This is how a typical post looks like, currently only in Spanish:

It took me about a week working at night to build the program above. Currently I am trying to monetise it with “Retail Company X Affiliates” and building enough followers to start generating some interest from other vendors.
The robot is 100% automated and requires minor maintenance. All this is running in a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and my plan is to leave it running for several months and see results. Currently I have been running it for 5 days and I already have nearly 300 followers (probably low quality followers).
Please, could you let me know your thoughts about it, how to improve it, how to monetise it and/or how to extrapolate this to a more commercial business?

May Bitcoin Futures Seeing Heavy Volumes

May has been a banner month for Bitcoin (BTC), featuring a breakout rally above $8000. Crypto bulls have taken control of the BTC cash market, bidding values higher at a rapid pace. No one is 100% sure why values are spiking ― perhaps this week’s traded volumes of May Bitcoin futures are a clue.

Monday was a huge session for assets across the board, especially equities and cryptocurrencies. Stocks took a beating, while cryptos rallied. May Bitcoin futures put in an opening week GAP up before posting a test of the $8000 level.
Aside from the glaring daily GAP ($6290-$7150) for May BTC, the most striking observation from this chart are the daily traded volumes. Here they are from this week (approximate values):
Bitcoin futures are a large contract offered by the CME, featuring extensive margin requirements and a pricey tick size. In practice, they are not the most popular instrument among retail traders.
However, institutional investors implement BTC futures to hedge portfolio risk and speculate on forthcoming moves in the cash markets. Given this week’s comparatively huge traded volumes in May Bitcoin futures, it appears institutional players are betting on an extended rally out of BTC.
Bottom Line: If the big money players are going long, then look for everyone else to pile on. In the event we see a significant retracement in this week’s range, buying in from the daily 38% retracement is a good play to the bull. Taking a long position from $7125 is a solid market entry point. With an initial stop loss at $6489, this trade is good for $875 per BTC on a return to the $8000 level.

Scam Ads placement in streamer's bio

Greetings fellow reader, and hopefully anyone from twitch team.
There's a giant social abuse going on using Twitch platform. Advertisements of scam. This is sickening to the very core.
Typical scenario happens like this:
  1. An online scam approaches any mid-sized streamer
  2. They offer streamer $2000-$5000 monthly compensation for advertisement
  3. Streamer agrees, they produce a banner with promocode or affiliate link, streamer places it in his bio
Now, there are various things I have to address, as to why it happens and why twitch and we, as community and fellow human beings, should take an action.
First, what scams am I talking about? List starts with online casinos, e-sport betting, different item scams, and many other forms of gambling. Few times I've stumbled upon Forex links. There are other extreme cases, like Athene's "cryptocurrency cult". I don't want to discuss validity of those things being classified as scams, enough has been said by people far brighter than I, but few of the things to point out:
It is a fact supported by data that those enterprises are rent-seeking firms, extracting money in predatory fashion from the poorest and most vulnerable. I'm not trying to tell people what to do, or what not to do. All I'm saying is that advertisement of scam, if allowed on Twitch, damages people. Furthermore, if advertisement like that is allowed, where exactly does the line cross? Would it be OK if I started to advertise how to steal money from credit cards? This is a real question and case. A Russian carder "lord", i.e. big player Seleznev, actively taught people how to card, thus he created a huge market for himself which he could supply with stolen card info. He was arrested and sentenced in 2014 for 27 years.

As to why it happens and economics behind it...

First, and foremost, it is profitable. $2000-$5000 is a lot of money unless you're Twitch superstar. This is especially prevalent in developing economies: average Russian streamer will have times less subscribers and that money highly exceeds the median income in the country. It's a dream come true actually: imagine you got an offer to earn 3-10 median wages for placing a banner..? On top of that, most streamers who try to monetize their platform have no job, no education and no career prospects. They pursue Twitch career because they don't see other opportunity.
Second, and still important, they don't know better. No one is speaking about those ads leading to people losing money. No one is speaking about how advertising gambling is highly unethical, immoral and uncool. No one is telling them that if gambling scheme is paying them $5000 a month, that means that at the very least they earn $10000 and more from his/her viewerbase.

Solution?

It's quite simple really. Twitch should prohibit advertisement of gambling, financial investments and other sketchy things. This is really all it would take.
I've clicked through 10 Russian streamers with 300-2000 viewers. All of them had a banner. I don't want to post links and dox people, this is not the point of my post. Russia is a poor country. By allowing scams to be advertised, Twitch lets predators prey on those people and make them even poorer. This is definitely not rampant problem, and Twitch is definitely not the only platform where it happens. But it could fix it, without doing much work. Young people and people at the start of their careers are especially vulnerable. They don't see perspective, they want things now. And those people are the core audience of Twitch, in any country.

How does my churn plan sound?

Brand new to this but I don't forsee needing big credit (e.g., loan, mortgage) anytime soon so I figured this is the best time to churn if I'm going to do it.
My goal is to accumulate enough points to fund long-haul airfare and I guess hotels for the next two years or so. My family also does some US travel but I know Aeroplan is better for long haul. I have some Air Miles I can use for short haul for the time being.
I can also leverage my parents. They have really low value credit cards, other than a PC Mastercard which I should probably try to upgrade to a World Elite since we shop at a lot of Loblaws banners and gas up at Esso (3% return. vs 1% on non-World Elite). Is it better to refer them to cards or to get them supplementary cards to save on the annual fee?
How does this plan sound?
Currently own:
BMO SPC Air Miles Mastercard - My first credit card so I'll keep it open. Currently only using it at places that don't accept AMEX.
AMEX SimplyCash - Currently on the introductory offer (5% cash back on certain categories). I try to use this everywhere that accepts AMEX since the insurance, etc. is better than my other card.
Currently applying for:
Chase Mariott Visa - Already applied for this since I've read that it's best to go for this first. Will use as my main card for forex transactions. Not sure yet but I may cancel before the annual fee kicks in and get the Rogers Platinum Mastercard since I have Rogers services (waives the annual fee). If I don't get approved I'll get the Rogers MC. [30k Mariott -> 10k SPG]
AMEX Business Platinum - I'm doing some travel over the next couple of months so I could use the lounges. There's a chance I'll be doing significant travel throughout the next year or two - if I do I'll probably keep this card, if not I'll cancel before the annual fee kicks in. [75k AMEX -> Aeroplan]
Plan on getting:
AMEX Personal Gold - Self-refer (I can do this from Biz Plat, right?) and will use as my primary if I cancel the Business Platinum. [25k + 5k AMEX -> 30k Aeroplan]
AMEX Business Gold - Self-refer, churn, then cancel. [30k + 10k AMEX -> 40k Aeroplan)
AMEX Personal SPG - Churn then cancel. [20k + 10k SPG]
AMEX Business SPG - Self-refer, churn, then cancel. [20k + 10k SPG]

Total = 70k SPG + 145k Aeroplan (plus regular points from purchases)
